For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, the Winter 2021 Doodle features a leaf and pinecone-covered Hedgehog slowly trudging through snow, while the Southern Hemisphere hedgehog bounces along a beach covered in tropical fruits and leaves: It is an annual event celebrated all over the world in support for environment protection. The event also signifies the shortest day, with the daylight at a minimum courtesy of the axis of the planet, which is tilted further away from the sun.Ĭonversely, those in the Southern Hemisphere are celebrating the start of summer and have a celebratory Doodle, too. Today’s Doodle highlights the Winter Solstice, which is the longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and is visible in a multitude of nations and regions including the US, Canada, the UK, Europe and India. In honor of the Paralympics, Google is bringing back the Doodle Champion Island. Google is celebrating the official start of the Winter season with an animated Doodle visible to those in the Northern Hemisphere.
